International Osteoporosis Foundation recognized `Osteoporosis Risk Assessment` as the worldwide theme of the year of 2007. Thus, promoting the knowledge and awareness of osteoporosis risk was decided to be carried out with activities organized during the World Osteoporosis Day, 2007 and throughout the year.
The Osteoporosis Patient Society and the Turkish Osteoporosis Society published `Osteoporosis Risk Test` in the supplement of Hürriyet newspaper on the occasion of 8 March, International Women’s Day.
On the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day, Turkish Osteoporosis Society arranged a panel in İzmir University of Economics in cooperation with municipality of Balçova for promoting public awareness of osteoporosis. All aspects of osteoporosis, prevention and treatment approaches were explained by the board members of the Society. Afterwards, bone mass density measurements using x-ray absorbtiometry were performed on postmenopausal women for five days in municipal neighborhood houses.
